Last month so the re-opening of one of the biggest nightlife destinations in London finally re opened. Ministry of Sound went through a complete refurbishment, featuring a bigger courtyard, new drivers for what’s known to be the biggest sound-system in the world, as well as newly equipped lights and strobes to accomodate the ever growing crowd that go to the club.
The acts that they brought in were also top class, spanish wonderkid Danny-Avila, Size Records favorites Third Party, as well as the resident DJ of the club Patrick Hagenaar. Patrick Hagenaar started off the night with one of the most unique and danceable sets I have ever heard, its always refreshing to hear a DJ play music that’s seen to be ‘outside the box’, or music one normally wouldn’t hear even at a place like ministry. Third Party then followed with an amazing set, it was my first time seeing them so I hadn’t set any expectations, they captured the crowd with ease, taking a play from Ingrosso and Axwell, they opened with Kryder’s ‘Aphrodite’ and followed with more progressive tracks, not leaving out their hits such as ‘Lights’ and their remix to RHCP’s ‘Otherside’.
Danny Avila was the final act of the night and solidified why people see him as a rising star. With numerous of his own bootlegs as well as dropping his big room tracks such as ‘Poseidon’ and ‘Tronco’, he had the crowd going till the early hours of the morning. It was my 4th time seeing him and it’s great to see the diversification he has as a DJ at such a young age, he can play a hard hitting set to a tech house set with ease. And his knowledge of music from the past is unparalleled.
Overall it was a great night, after Ministry of Sound being shrouded with thoughts of closing down, it is refreshing to see that one of the oldest nightclubs in London is back for good.
